Licences and cards decide the first pass
In the trades the qualification block is the most important section on the page, and it belongs directly under your contact details. State licence type and number, journeyman or master status, apprenticeship completion and hours, union local if you are a member.
Then every current card and ticket, with expiry dates: OSHA 10 or 30, confined space, forklift, aerial lift, welding certifications with process and position, EPA 608, hot work, first aid. A foreman is working out whether you can legally start on Monday.
What does a contractor want to see in your work history?
Project type, scale, and the systems you worked on. Residential, commercial, industrial and institutional work are different trades in practice, and a contractor is checking whether you have done theirs.
Name the project type, the contract value or square footage, the systems or equipment involved, and whether you led a crew. Travel willingness, shift availability and a clean driving record are worth stating outright, because all three routinely decide a hire in this field.
Bullets that show trade competence
Inspection results, pass rates, callback rates and crew size are the numbers this field runs on, and they are more persuasive than any adjective.
- Ran rough-in and trim for 140 residential units across three phases, passing inspection first time throughout.
- Led a 5-person crew on a $9M hospital fit-out, installing and commissioning 40 rooftop units on schedule.
- Certified 6G on stainless and carbon; held a 98% radiographic pass rate across two years of pipe work.
- Cut service callback rate from 11% to 4% by standardising the branch diagnostic checklist.
