Engineering resume templates

Templates that give a licence, a project list and a tools block their own space, so a hiring engineer finds the FE or PE line without hunting for it.

Where a licence and certification block belongs

Directly under the summary, and always as text. In civil and structural work especially, an EIT, FE or PE line is a threshold question and a reviewer decides whether to keep reading based on it. The same applies to a Six Sigma belt in manufacturing, stamped-drawing authority, or a state registration number.

Write the credential out in full with the abbreviation next to it, because different postings search for different forms of the same thing.

How much project detail belongs on an engineering resume?

Enough to show scale and constraint, not enough to reproduce a specification. A project line naming the system, the budget or unit volume, the standard you designed to, and your specific role does more work than three paragraphs of process description.

For a long project history, a compact selected-projects block under experience keeps the experience section readable while still listing the work.

  • Redesigned a die-cast housing to hold a 0.05 mm flatness tolerance, cutting scrap from 6.2% to 1.4% across a 90,000-unit run.
  • Led electrical design for a 12 MW substation retrofit delivered to IEEE 1584 arc-flash requirements on a $4.1M budget.
  • Ran FEA on a chassis revision that removed 3.8 kg while holding the same fatigue life at 10^6 cycles.
  • Wrote and validated the PPAP package for two new suppliers, clearing both for production on a single submission.

The formatting mistake engineering resumes make most

Drawing-sheet layout. Engineers often build a resume the way they build a title block: boxed regions, tables inside tables, personal details in a bordered corner. Nested tables are the most reliable way to scramble a parse, because the reading order the software infers rarely matches the visual one. Every template here is single-column or a clean two-column split with no nested table structure, so a parser reads the file in the order a person does.

Which Engineering roles are covered?

Every job title below has templates in the gallery, each paired with a career stage so the section order already fits the application you are making. Open the gallery and filter to Engineering to see them.

Job titles sit across boundaries more often than a filter admits. If your work spans more than one of these, the nearest two are worth reading as well.

List the ones you would be comfortable being tested on, grouped by what they do. A run of thirty items covering every CAD, FEA, PLM and simulation package you have opened once reads as padding, and it dilutes the four or five that matter for the posting. A workable shape is two or three short lines: design tools, analysis tools, and the manufacturing or documentation systems you have worked inside. Version numbers rarely help unless the posting names one, in which case match it exactly. What does help is showing a tool inside a bullet rather than only in a list, because running a tolerance stack in a named package carries evidence a comma-separated row cannot. The templates here keep that skills block near the top, where a reviewer scans before anything else. Where a licence or a software authorisation is required to use a tool professionally, note it beside the entry.

Yes for roughly the first two years, then move it down. Fresh out of a programme, your degree, your discipline and any accreditation are the strongest signals you have, and a capstone or design-team project is real engineering under real constraints. Give it bullets with numbers rather than a one-line mention, and include your Fundamentals of Engineering result if you have passed it. Internships and co-ops belong under experience with the same treatment as a full role, because in this field they usually involve shipped work rather than shadowing. Once you have a couple of years of employed practice, that becomes the evidence a reviewer wants first and education compresses to two lines at the foot of the page. Every template here supports both orders without any redesign. Keep each co-op employer's name and the length of the placement visible, since a reviewer uses both to judge how much unsupervised work you have already done.
